HeartIT's EMRC^® are globally-unique identifiers that correspond to a patient’s medical information that is accessible remotely via the Internet. By simply entering http://publish.heartit.com/emrc into a standard web browser, where "emrc" is the globally unique 16-digit number associated with a specific medical record, users can access a patent’s medical information from anywhere in the world – without needing any proprietary software. The structure of HeartIT's EMRC^® is similar to that of a common credit card number in order to make its use convenient for physicians and patients alike. HeartIT also acts as an application service provider for its EMRC by providing centralized data management services to users of its EMRC.

Perhaps more importantly, however, the de-identified form of HeartIT's EMRC^® provides access to medical records without any HIPAA-protected patient identifiers, thereby simultaneously allowing patients, physicians, and researchers unrestricted access to vital medical information without jeopardizing patient privacy.
